During a recent visit to Belize I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Josephine from the Medina Bank village located in the Toledo District of Belize.
Her community began when two Q’eqchi families requested a portion of land be de-reserved so that they might begin a small community. After some five years, other families began requesting entrance into the village. To date the village has a population of around 300 people, mostly of Q'eqchi Maya descent.
Josephine, along with many women of her village handcraft beautiful items and come from their village to sell their creations to the tourists that frequent Belize every year.
This is the best way for these women to help support their communities and we are proud to carry a selection of these items. With each item you purchase you are supporting this beautiful Belizean village and the people who live there!
